Till now, six Indians are the receipients of the Prestigious Nobel Award Famous poet, Rabindranath Tagore was the first to win that award.
The Tagore family was very famous. Rabindranath's father Devendranath was a man of virtu-ous character. People used to re-spectfully call him as Maharshi. The real sur-name of the family was Bandopadhyay.
Rabindranath was born in Calcutta on 7th may, 1861.
Rabindranath grew up in a very pure and simple environment. The family led a very simple lifestyle. The clothes they wore, the food they ate were all very simple.
As a child, Rabindranath was not allowed to go out alone. He was always fascinated and enchanted by the nature outside.
His house was virtually like a school. Literature, arts, fine arts, theatrical skills, etc. could all be learnt at his home. Exercise was also a part of the daily routine.
Rabindranath's early educa-tion took place at home. A teacher would come home to teach him. This prevented him from going out of the house even though he wished to. Pages 32
